Selenium is present throughout the body, but is mostly found in the kidneys, liver, spleen, pancreas and testes.

It acts mainly as an anti-oxidant, blocking free radical activity and works synergistically with vitamin E to protect cells against environmental and dietary toxins thought to be caused by free radical damage – including various cancers, heart disease, strokes, cataracts and macular degeneration.

Selenium has also been shown to increase the ratio of HDL (good cholesterol) to LDL (bad cholesterol).
